Since 1989, Trenton Children's Chorus (TCC) has leveraged the transformative power of music to help children reach their full potential. In a city with a high school drop-out rate that has been as high as 50%, TCC demonstrates that teaching children and youth to make music together transfers the essential tools for success in academic, social, and workplace endeavors. In addition to choral music education and performance opportunities we offer drumming and keyboard instruction, music theory, tutoring, camperships plus music and academic scholarships.  The most tangible impact of participation in TCC is the fact that 100% of choristers who stay with the program through high school, graduate and go on to college.

 

The Executive Director, under the guidance of the Board of Directors, leads the overall strategic and operational responsibilities of TCC.   

Responsibilities

  • Create a culture consistent with TCC’s mission including a supportive work environment that results in positive morale for staff and choristers 
  • Actively engage and energize TCC employees, volunteers, choristers and their families, alumni, partnering organizations, grant organizations and donors
  • Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director, who reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for all artistic staff 
  • Model and ensure high professional and ethical standards throughout the organization
  • Engage partners and members of the community to further establish TCC as an essential program in the Greater Trenton area
  • Ensure programmatic excellence and positive impact through regular program evaluation 
  • Create a successful strategy for increasing individual donations, corporate gifts, grants and revenue from fundraising events
  • In partnership with the Director of Development, the Artistic Director and the Board Co-Presidents, be a champion of TCC in the community and to grantor organizations 
  • Actively connect community leaders and organizations with TCC to increase awareness and opportunities for choristers
  • Develop close working relationships with the Board of Directors to create a climate of collaboration, accountability and community 
  • Ensure accurate, timely and accountable communications with the Board of Directors, keeping the board apprised of progress toward program and operational goals and strategies for improvement as necessary
  • Develop the strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Trustees, identifying three- and five-year goals and objectives 
  • Lead programming by ensuring that the work of all key staff supports the mission and the strategic plan
  • Make certain that choristers are receiving the best possible experience 
  • Develop systems to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and drive accountability for outcomes 
  • Make decisions through the lens of realistic financial planning and the needs of TCC
  • Develop and proactively manage the budget 

The Ideal Candidate

  • is equally comfortable with strategic planning and operational management
  • has a proven track record of fundraising and event planning
  • is an experienced manager that works collaboratively with staff
  • is knowledgeable about marketing strategies and tools to effectively promote programs 
  • is dedicated to serving the needs of historically excluded families 
  • is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion champion and advocate

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree
  • 5-10 years’ experience in the non-profit field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Executive Director of a non-profit
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Financial management experience
  • Passion for Music and Music Education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of choral music and instruction
  • 5-10 years’ experience in the non-profit field
  • Experience with arts management and/or education non-profits

 

 

 

Compensation and Benefits: 

This position is exempt and requires a minimum of 30-35 hours a week

The salary is $60,000
