    A cappella group Pentatonix landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the group's first top-selling album, and also the first time in history an a cappella group has seen an album debut at No. 1.

    Choruses should pay attention to a rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Labor that would revise regulations on overtime compensation. The new rules would require employers—including nonprofit organizations—to pay time-and-a-half wages to salaried employees earning up to $50,440 annually when they work more than 40 hours in a given week.

    A new Boston-area group is believed by its founder to be only the second chorus in the country open only to transgender people. The Butterfly Music Transgender Chorus, founded by Sandi Hammond, provides a supportive community where trans men and women can make music with others who understand their struggle to feel accepted, and learn to sing with their new voices without damaging their vocal chords during the transition.

    The 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Music was awarded to Julia Wolfe for her work Anthracite Fields. The piece was commissioned and performed by the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia and uses voice, music, movement, and lighting and video projections to tell the stories of the coal miners and families who worked in the mines of northeastern Pennsylvania.

    The governing board of Chorus America has named Catherine Dehoney as President & CEO of Chorus America, effective March 23, 2015. Dehoney brings a wealth of experience in arts management and fundraising, having served most recently as the executive director for development at the Castleton Festival.
