Be part of creating new choral repertoire AND support Chorus America!
Chorus America is proud of its tradition of presenting Commission Consortiums, bringing together choruses of all sizes around the U.S. and Canada to bring new works from acclaimed composers to life for a fraction of what it would cost a single chorus to commission such a piece. Proceeds from the commissioning fees support the core programs and services of Chorus America. We are grateful to the composers for our 2024 Commission Consortiums: Karen Marrolli (SATB) and Kevin Johnson (treble).
Kevin Phillip Johnson D.M.A. biography
Music Everywhere is a vibrant, uplifting piece written for SSAA chorus and piano. The composition celebrates the omnipresence and transformative power of music, embodying a joyous expression of rhythm, melody, and harmony. The piece is a testament to the universal language of music and its ability to bring people together in harmony.
Cost: $500 USD
Glory Morning Bound is a statement of solidarity with the marginalized and oppressed, expressing a dream of a better day to come for all humankind. Inspired in part by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the text (written by the composer) promises a community that lifts up the hurt and broken and carries them with continual forward momentum, as if in a procession or march, to a world where “love is law and oppression is no more.” Simple parts for djembe and body percussion add to the processional feel of this work for SATB chorus and soloist.
Cost: $500-$1,025 USD (tiered pricing)
Our tiered pricing structure is based on your chorus' budget size and is designed to lower barriers to access for less-resourced and emerging choruses. The pricing for this year's SATB commission is as follows:
We do not want cost to be a barrier to participation for interested choruses! Please contact us at give@chorusamerica.org to discuss options if the suggested prices prohibit your organization's ability to participate in bringing these new pieces to life.
Registration for the 2024 Commission Consortium is now open! To confirm your participation, please complete the form linked here no later than September 13. If you would prefer to finalize your participation by check, please contact the Development team at give@chorusamerica.org.
Each composer offers a 3-5 minute piece that will be delivered in PDF format no later than September 13, 2024. Participating ensembles will share the commissions and dedications equally and have exclusive rights to premiere the piece through March 31, 2025.
